Tentatives d’assassinats, morts suspectes, intimidations, utilisation de technologies de surveillance contre les membres de son propre parti… Rwanda Classified révèle comment le pouvoir rwandais entend réduire au silence les voix critiques, à l’intérieur de ses frontières comme à l’étranger, particulièrement en Belgique. Ce sujet s’inscrit dans le projet Rwanda Classified, qui plonge au coeur du régime répressif de Paul Kagame. Une enquête réalisée par 50 journalistes, issus de 17 médias différents, dont la RTBF et nos confrères belges de Knack et Le Soir, le tout coordonné par le réseau international de journalistes d’investigation Forbidden Stories. L’enquête a été déclenchée suite à la mort John Williams Ntwali, un journaliste Rwandais, le 18 janvier 2023. Il aurait été percuté par une voiture alors qu’il circulait à moto taxi, dans la capitale Kigali. Mais ses proches contestent cette version. Avant sa mort, John Williams enquêtait sur des sujets sensibles, notamment des soupçons de corruption, de disparitions ou d’arrestations arbitraires. Forbidden Stories a décidé de poursuivre son travail.
